Pharmacokinetics Simulations

Two Compartment Model: Single IV Bolus Dose

INSTRUCTIONS

On the following page, you can simulate results for what happens to the plasma drug concentration of a drug over time for a two compartment model when a single IV bolus dose is given. The model system is NOT at steady state.

You need to:

  • Select whether to plot the results on a linear scale or semilog scale. NB: For most simulations, the scale is preset to linear but here the scale is preset to SEMILOG. (You can change between the two at any time: all current results will be replotted on the new scale.)
  • Adjust the dose (D), volume of distribution of the central compartment (Vc), transfer rate constant from the central to the peripheral compartment (k12), transfer rate constant from the peripheral to the central compartment (k21) and elimination rate constant from the central compartment (k10). These are all preset.
  • Adjust the x-axis and y-axis scales if required. (These can be adjusted at any time: all current results will be replotted on the new axes.)
  • Plot the results - up to a maximum of six plots.

You can reset the simulation at any time: the simulation will return to the initial preset values.
